Who is Rami Makhlouf

Rami is a syrian native businessman a cousin to the ruling power Bashar Hafez al-Assad. He has been part of the ruling government and a key member of the government until this moment. He is estimated to worth 5billion dollars and admirebly the richest businesman in syria. His business empire include real estate, oil tycoon, electricy. tourism, telecommunication.

Recently the ruling government had asked his mobile company to pay back tax worth millions of dollars. Due to this he is being isolated from government center stage and being banned from travelling outside the state until the rift is settled.

He had supported his cousin for over 9 years during the government civil war infact he is die hard supporter of his cousin Bashar Hafez al-Assad. He has been part of the ruling government. This could be the reason for his aggression and few days ago had gone on social media to express his anger.

It should be noted that assad ruling government had suffered heavy blow through the civil war and 80% of the population are living in poverty and in urge to satisfy its citizens the government are looking for avenue to let its citizens know that he is still there for them , pursuing his cousin to pay back taxes is one way to re-establish himself in the middle of politics in the war torn country and regain his popularity
