Military take over in Guinea bisau: staged?
Tiny country with its flaws embroidered with its tussle for power remain in its staggering state . Guinea Bisau is a tiny West African country with a population of about 2.3 million as at 2025 population review, classified as one of the poorest country in the world with resources only coming from agriculture.
As the recent coup detat is still under investigation, diaspora looked at circumstance surrounding the coup, why it happened how it happened pre and post circumstances that led to the overthrow of its president that was once an army officer.

The election that took place this November saw great vast international observers present to oversee the conduct of the election and it was reported as free and fair. The opposition party led by Fernando Dias claimed to have won the election claiming they scored over 50% of the votes, and to counteract him the ruling party led by Embalo also declared himself winner. All these are claims as the electoral commission have not announced the results of the election. Embalo, 53, is a former army general who served as prime minister from 2016 to 2018. He is seeking a second term to become Guinea-Bissau’s president.

In the route of all these controversy it was noted that Embalo was overthrowed by the military junta and analyst suggest that circumstance’s of his overthrown does not in any way resemble a coup d’état. Where is the drama that follows military intervention? Where is the tussle between the civilian government and the fight from the barracks? History tells us that all military takeovers come with confrontation and resistance from the other party. It is never a handover event as we see in Guinea Bissau case. With due respect to all its citizens and a concern to lovers of democracy I will suggest that deposed president Embalo have a lot of questions to answer, it is reported that he has fled to exile to the republic of Congo while his opponent is under detention by the military junta, but the fact remains that he has no chaser as the coup was reported to have been peaceful,

Africa is a continent that breaks the law with impunity knowing that no one will question, but the fact remains that observers are watching and we are still seeking for answers. The government of the Guinea Bissau spent huge amount of money, resources and wasted everybody’s time in the process of democracy and accountability, with no result to show, over twenty countries where flown in as international observers, Why Africa? It reminds me of the past presidential election in Nigeria under late Buhari where Inec server used for election was said to malfunction the very day of the presidential election. As at today they have never been an investigation or panel set out to investigate such anomalies. Africa seems to be pushed into democracy and honestly this game is not working, it is time for the world to allow Africa to choose what method of governance they want
