Lagos Doctors call off strike

Medical doctors in Lagos, have called off strike and resume work at various hospitals after suspending a three day strike.

The strike was based over unpaid salaries and other issues of safety and welfare. The doctors had complained of ppe equipment for hospitals and in this era where there are corona-virus infections the doctors want to be protected like their other colleagues round the world. A medical doctor Dr sanya said that they come to hospitals with fear hoping that they will not be infected and because she posed a risk to his household he has considered resigning however she had secured a part time job with private hospital where she will not be exposed to covid-19

The leader of the union, Dr Oluwajimi the strike had achieved the objective of bringing attention to their plight and also bringing the government to the negotiating table.

He insisted that doctors on the Covid-19 frontline remained at risk. He also reinterated that government should come negotiation table to get this issue settled in no distance time as this will prevent any further treat by the union.

It has been noted that similar strike had happened in the past and government response in the past had not been encouraging and hope that this time around in this treat of covid-19 the authorities should act fast and meet the doctors need.
